J-pop and K-pop Differences and Similarites

Whenever I watch video of a girl group from Avex or any girl group from any agency, I would always see a comment comparing that certain group to K-pop. As much I want to reply to those comments, I don't want to start a huge fight so I am going to write about it on this blog.

First of all, K-pop and J-pop groups are different! You can just tell just by looking at them(Unless you're someone who don't know anything about J-pop and K-pop). From what I notice from a lot of K-pop groups, they tend to focus on a more mature and futuristic image while J-pop on the other hand, focuses on a more cute and innocent image. An another difference based on image is a lot of J-pop groups are kind of like those  next door neighbor girls while K-pop are like people you wouldn't normally see walking down the street.

The difference that I wanted to talk about the most is how much training J-pop groups and K-pop groups get and how the agencies work. For those who don't know, in the K-pop industry, they want their talent to be talented as much as possible so they will train for years before they debut. Although I've seen some K-pop groups and that doesn't seem to be the case. I think there are groups that didn't get as much training but a lot of the groups do. In J-pop, there are groups that are trained to debut but a lot of the times, they are chosen from auditions and debut as soon as they are chosen. And everyone's level is completely different. There are girls who struggle because they have no dance experience and others have taken dance/voice lessons. But they learn everything along the way and within a few years, they can learn dance moves within a few hours. But there are trainee options like in Hello Project, they have Hello Pro Kenshuusei.

How the agencies work in the Japanese entertainment industry and the Korean industry is pretty different. The K-pop industry reminds me of the J-pop industry back in the 1970s. From what I heard, they get very low wages so the agency is the one who gets the majority of it. Also they have horrific schedules so the only time they get to rest is before the shows start.  In Japan, they do seem to have day offs but I guess that depends on how popular the group is. But the similarity is that because they have to work a lot, it's hard to watch their health. So either way, if your in show biz, you will suffer from health problems.

My conclusion for this is that K-pop and J-pop is different and I'm guessing the reason why people thinks J-pop is copying K-pop is because groups like Dream, E-girls, Dancing Dolls which are considered to be vocal/dance groups have a similar image. But they are different and I tried to make this post detailed as much as possible.

3 Good Things do Happen Another #1 for Morning Musume!!!!

Although the news has been announced on the members blog and other sites, I wanted to write about it today when the weekly oricon chart got updated. First of all, congrats to Morning Musume for their 3rd #1 single in a row! I'm really happy about it because I think they really deserve it and I'm glad they're slowly reaching to the top again. The last time they had 3 #1 singles in a row was in 2001 so I think with the sales they currently have, each single will be able to sell more and more. But what surprised me the most was they were able to sell more than AKB48 which they were on their 2nd wek of sales. I thought AKB48 would have stronger sales so there were times when I was a little concerned about Morning Musume not being #1 but they did it. 3 Good things do happen!

Single Review: Wagamama Ki no Mama Ai no Joke/Ai no Gundan

Today, I shall review Morning Musume's latest single, Wagamama Ki no Mama Ai no Joke/Ai no Gundan. I have a feeling it's going to be a pretty positive review since I love all the songs in this. The edition I'm going to review will be the Limited Edition C.

Wagamama Ki no Mama Ai no Joke:  There are parts of think song that reminds me of Renai Hunter. For example, the beginning and how it has a different melody in the chorus parts and how it is the same in the end. I think this is a strong song for Morning Musume and just like any MoMusu song, it has a cool sound to it and is catchy.

Ai no Gundan: This song reminds me of Kimi Sae Ireba Nanimo Iranai for some reason. Probably because Brainstorming was also a double A single. When I first listened to it, I found the intro a bit odd but as I gave a few listens and I just fell in love with it. What I find interesting is that in both Wagamama and this, they have a part that you have to push your voice a bit to sound strong. Also I like how has a Trumpet sound in the arrangement and it kind of puts away the techno sound.

Makeru ki Shinai Konya no Shobu: This song certainly has a B-side sound to it. I think this is a good song although I like all the B-sides in this but this has to be my favorite. This song like all the songs in the single does have techno feel to it but it has less effects compared to the other 2 songs in this edition expect for Sayu's part.

I shall go on with my ranking system! I shall give it a 9.5/10. I LOVE this single! For some reason, I just love all the latest releases and Morning Musume deserves to have #1 on the charts. But what I like in particular is that this single shows that they are still going strong without Tanaka Reina. Also, the lines are more equal although I want to see more of Zukki and Kuduu which I hope we will in the future!

Single Review: Come on A My House

This is my first actual review on this blog. For my first song review, I'm going to talk about Hey! Say! JUMP's latest single, Come on A My House. I'm not familiar with all the songs on this single because I only bought the limited edition so I'm just going to review the songs that are on it.

Come On A My House: When I first listened to it, I did not like it. But after I listened to it a few more times, it started to grow on me and I like it now. It's such a fun and catchy song and it has a HSJ feel to it. It's also very cute and I think the lyrics are cute as well. But the title of the song drives me nuts! Whenever I listen to it, I feel like my english gets a little messed up despite being fluent.

Just For You: This song is mainly a ballad and the complete opposite of the main song.I think this song shows more of HS7's mature side and that they're not kids anymore. I also think the lyrics are very touching and it's nice to listen to something like this every once in a while.

Scramble: Just like HS7's song, it is more of a ballad but at the same time, it is a little up-tempo and mature. I can't choose which song I like more but if I had to choose, then I guess I like this song a little more than Just For You.

If I were to rank this single out of 10, I would give it a 6.5. It's not bad but it certainly isn't my favorite. I feel like the coupling songs are more stronger than the main song. That's actually what made me want to buy this version than the regular edition. I loved Bounce but I wasn't very fond of the other coupling song. Overall, the main song has a HSJ feel to it and other than the title, I think it's a good song :)

Hello!

Hello! My name is Ai and this is my 2nd blog! I have another blog called Ai chan's Blog that I've been using for a few years but that blog is more about my life and about what I'm into and all that. On this blog, I want to focus mainly on idols such as Hello Project. Although I post my thoughts about a certain song and all that on my other blog, I felt like I need a blog just to focus on idols and my thoughts about songs, MVs, etc. I actually wanted to make a blog like this but I'm not very confident about my writing skills but I felt like it was time to make a blog like this after having a blog about my life for 3 years and focus on what I love. I might not be the best writer but Yoroshiku ne! :)
